Hey there, thank you for being here. We're humbled that you're seeking to learn more about us - on this page you will find a brief history of Treeincarnation, why we're in business, what we stand for and ultimately what we’re trying to achieve. At the bottom of the page you can get an glimpse of the culture that we’re so proud of, it’s a cheeky recruitment video from August 2018 staring a very special team member who very sadly isn’t around anymore, albeit is a huge reason as to who we are today, because we were so very lucky to have him.
About US
Treeincarnation was founded in protest of the industry's incredibly wasteful status quo. Typically when a tree needs to be removed, the branches are chipped and the trunk is cut up for firewood, or alternatively the whole thing is chipped - either way, it completely discards the trees' up cycle potential.
More often than not, there is very little wrong with the structural integrity of the large trees that are removed in an urban environment, and it is usually for reasons relating to the health of the trees as to why they’re removed. This makes for an ideal scenario to make the most of their upcycle potential, especially when the species are Elm's, Eucalypt's, Ash's, Cedar's, Oak's, etc.
We live in a world where our forests are harvested for furniture and building materials, yet trees in a domestic setting are typically cut up into firewood or disposed of as mulch.
Treeincarnation was founded to make furniture from the trees already being cut down, in an attempt to minimise waste across the board (pun intended) and to be a catalyst for change in the industry.
Advocating the removal of trees is what we definitely do not stand for, however when it comes time for one to be removed, our attitude lies in acknowledging that crying over spilt milk achieves nothing - and when the focus is around identifying opportunities for innovation, up cycling as much of each tree's natural resources is best for us, others, and the greater good.
Vision
To Make The World A Better Place By improving the quality of lives of everyone we interact with, through Arboriculture and Upcycling.
In simpler terms, our highest intention is to simply leave people better off comparative to how we found them - whether they be a supplier, customer or the barista at a local cafe. This stems from the notion ‘a rising tide lifts all ships’ - it doesn’t necessarily have to be grandiose or pivotally life-changing, many small acts amount to few large ones and it is the sole reason for our existence. Below is how we choose to go about facilitating it.
Mission
To be the most enjoyable service-based workplace to be apart of, Melbourne-wide.
We’re serious about having a good time at work, so much to the point where we recognise that not only has it been a major factor in getting us where we are today, but is also of paramount importance to continue to uphold if we are to genuinely have a positive impact.
This isn’t to say that every day is going to be a bundle of fun and there won’t be any challenges. This is about recognising that we all have our days and that it’s part of the game, it’s because of the team that we’re a part of that keeps us at our best when the going gets tough.
Values
The Values are our DNA if you will, it is who we must show up as each and every day if we are to achieve our Mission and fulfil our Vision. This isn’t some wishy-washy bullshit writing on a wall pretending to be something we’re not. This is the legit framework that is used in deciding everything from which candidates succeed in getting through to an interview, to how we go about creating social media content and everything in-between.
#1 Returning Home Safe everyday
Being the third most dangerous job in the country, it is imperative that practical assessments of risk are coupled with intuitive decision making to enable for everyone to be as safe as practicably possible.
People who best embody this value do not have to be reminded or prompted, it is automatic and is an attitude that is inherently aligned with who they are.
#2 Make it happen - be outcome orientated
Making It Happen is about being relentlessly focused on the intended outcome and taking ownership of projects and tasks to ensure they are delivered through to completion.
This does not mean Make It Happen at all costs - disregarding the other values in the process. Make It Happen is about hooking in whilst being mindful of the bigger picture as to what is trying to be achieved, so we continue to deliver as efficiently as practicably possible.
The person who best embodies this is one who takes responsibility for the delivery of the intended outcome, knows what needs to be done to achieve it and puts the right things in place to ensure it gets done in a timely manner.
#3 Give a Shit - Sweat the Small Stuff
How the small things get done are how the big things get done. Whilst relatively self-explanatory, Giving a Shit is remembering that if we don’t take care of our customers, somebody else will. It isn’t about giving your all to the point of exhaustion, more often than not it is about the little things that require minimal effort yet have the greatest impact.
#4 Enjoy Yourself
Let’s be honest, without enjoying ourselves then what’s the point?
We all need a sense of fun and adventure in our lives and those who best exemplify this are those who not only have fun themselves, but lift others higher by bringing them onto the party bus too.
#5 Use Your INITIATIVE
You’re either green and growing, or you’re ripe and rotting. Those who most effectively embody this are those who take ownership of narrowing the gap between ‘how things have always been done’ and the most effective way it can be done today.
More often than not, it is about recognising what hasn’t been working and doing things differently moving forward to ensure we’re constantly learning and growing as individuals.
The person who typically asks questions like "what could be learnt from this" when things go pear shaped are ones who best mitigate future problems by ensuring things are done differently moving forward.
#6 Be A Team Player
Collectively we can achieve more and have a better experience along the way when we’re working together and continue to have each others backs, the best way to facilitate this is to create a fun and respectable environment within the team.
Those that best live up to this value are ones who recognise and embrace that the greatest currency there is, is the effect we have on others.
As promised, here’s the insight into our culture that we said we’d share with you. We’re very lucky we have this video as the person starring the show is very sadly no longer around today, and is a great video to refer back on to be reminded as to the type of person Thomas Harris-Barnes was. As you’ll see in the clip, Tommy had an infectious personality which made for such a joyous workplace when he was around. Sadly however, in January of 2019, a good mate, housemate and coworker was lost regrettably to suicide at the age of just 24 years old. A total shock to all of us, it serves as an imperative reminder that the good fight must continue, as we don’t know how many others out there are doing it tough.
To Tommy.
